Our Experience
Our experience dates back to 1984 with the creation of a voluntary employees’ beneficiary association (VEBA) trust to offer school employees in Washington a tax-free medical reimbursement plan, now defined by the IRS as a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA). VEBA Service Group, LLC (VSG) consultants played a major role in bringing together the three sponsoring school organizations and also worked with the state Attorney General’s office to ensure plan funding by local school districts complied with state statute. Today, with well over $151 million in assets, this VEBA trust is still in operation providing HRA benefits to more than 37,000 participants from over 400 participating state agencies, higher education institutions, community and technical colleges, school districts, and educational service districts in Washington. In other states, VSG has consulted with lawmakers, legislative task force members and others looking for expert advice with regard to HRA plan design, administration, funding methods, and trust vehicles. VSG now serves multiple clients in several states serving plans with combined assets totaling approximately $481,000,000. HRA Consultants, A Division of VEBA Service Group, LLC has been engaged by VALIC and is responsible for coordinating and managing plan administration and providing consulting services to VALIC’s HealthSecure HRAÒ plan for public employers. We are networked with the very best legal counsel and HRA plan service providers, and are in frequent contact with other industry leaders and high-ranking IRS officials responsible for issuing periodic HRA plan guidance and notices.
